The Hygiene Discipline within the Department of Preventive Medicine and the Discipline of Geriatrics and Occupational Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy intend to evaluate the degree of awareness of decision-makers regarding occupational health and the needs for improvement of integrated research techniques and evidence-based practice to strengthen the capacities of the Republic of Moldova based on the good practices implemented by Italy.
This will be possible thanks to the launch, on January 1, 2024, of the CEI support for building the research and action capacity in the field of occupational health and the environment in the Republic of Moldova project, financed by the Experience Exchange Program of the Central European Initiative (CEI) – a tool that supports programs focused on the transfer of know-how and best practices from the EU to a CEI member or non-EU states. The project will be implemented until June 30, 2025, with a budget of 39,970 euros.
This project is a continuation of the bilateral cooperation between Nicolae Testemitanu University and the University of the city of Pavia, Italy, and will lay the foundation for the evaluation and improvement of the current situation in the field of occupational health in the Republic of Moldova.
According to Dumitru Cheptea, university assistant at the Hygiene Discipline, this project aims to develop and strengthen the knowledge and research skills of young researchers in the occupational health area. Thus, it will be possible to identify gaps in the existing training programs for professionals.
As a result of activities completed under the previous project, the existing capacities of occupational health services and occupational medicine aimed at developing the concept of occupational health service in the context of the implementation of the Convention of the International Labor Organization (ILO) 161-Occupational health services in the Republic of Moldova. This project will help to determine the level of preparation of all interested parties and to identify the weak points, threats and obstacles in the implementation of the ILO Convention No. 161 (1985), which the Republic of Moldova ratified in 2021.
